Cutalong at Lake Anna

Cutalong at Lake Anna, Virginia’s premier master planned private golf community, held the official grand opening of its championship 18-hole golf course on July 1, with more than 100 guests, local officials, and members of the media in attendance. Community representatives also showcased renderings of the many resort-style amenities that will break ground soon, including multi-story clubhouses, a resident activity center, marina, golf villas, and other facilities.

“This is an exciting milestone for Cutalong, which brings a world-class golf and lakefront resort experience to central Virginia,” said Parker Enloe, principal, Stillwater Equity Partners. “With the full course now open and members joining, our focus is now on the buildout of world-class amenities for members and future community residents.”

Located near the town of Mineral in Louisa County, Cutalong features an 18-hole private golf course designed by renowned architect Tom Clark. Ron Whitten, former architectural editor of Golf Digest Magazine, worked with Clark to create a unique experience at Cutalong, combining knowledge of old and new courses to present historic golf highlights.

Cutalong is a true concept course developed as a 21st century National Golf Links design. Totaling 7,399 yards, it recreates features and hole layouts from some of the most famous British and American courses while also showcasing the local area’s mining heritage. Actual spoil mounds from the region’s mining days can be found on some holes, while railroad timbers flank bunkers on others. It is the only private access golf course community at Lake Anna and currently has more than 120 members.

“The concept at Cutalong is big, wide fairways and very difficult greens, making it a ‘second shot’ golf course,” said Clark, who is partner at Ault, Clark & Associates and a past president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA). “Golfers who put their shot in the right segment are going to have a chance at a birdie putt. But if they put it in the wrong segment, they may have a three putt.”

At the grand opening media day event, representatives also shared updates on the 891-unit master planned community being built on a thousand-acre site at Cutalong. The master plan calls for a mixture of estate lots, single-family homes, townhomes, and golf cottages providing idyllic scenery on the Virginia countryside. Single-family homes and cottages are being built during the first two phases of construction. Cutalong’s Stay & Play Units are maintenance-free and part of a managed rental pool program.

Renderings of the golf clubhouse and activity center were shared during the grand opening event. Cutalong recently announced that it is partnering with leading architecture and design firm GuernseyTingle to create those and other facilities. National civil engineering consulting and design firm Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB) has also been tapped to support the project.

Cutalong development is being led by Stillwater Equity Partners, who detailed plans for other community amenities including dining, pools, walking paths, racquet sports, a marketplace, and marina access to Lake Anna.

Cutalong is now accepting applications for golf and social club memberships. For membership dues and fees, or for real estate information, visit www.cutalonglakeanna.com or call 540-894-4275.
