Lake Anna Nursery was purchased by Brandon and Valerie Groome on April 1st, 2017 (no, not a April Fool’s Day prank!). While the young couple may seem like the “new kids on the block,” both are Louisa natives with strong roots in the county. Brandon, 28, grew up in Mineral and left his career as a firefighter/paramedic to pursue what the couple calls a “better quality of life.” “We have a three-year-old son and 15-month-old twin girls who are elated to have their dad home every night, every weekend, and every holiday,” said Valerie. “With three toddlers, I’m just happy to have extra hands!”
Valerie, 29, grew up in Ferncliff and comes from a background in customer service and hospitality. She left her career as the general manager of the Best Western at Zions Crossroads in order to be at the nursery full-time. Both feel that their background experiences will help them to succeed as business owners.As far as the nursery, Brandon and Valerie hope to grow the business by producing more plant material from seed, by being open year-round rather than just seasonally, and by having a full-service florist on site. “We hope to have the florist shop up and running by mid to late September,” Brandon explained. “We believe that it will bring in more foot traffic, and we’re excited to serve our customers in this aspect. They also have plans to run a Christmas store this holiday season and will stock snow-removal materials as well as provide contractual snow-removal services. They will also have pumpkins, mums, and Poinsettias for sale. Lake Anna Nursery can take care of all your landscaping and hardscaping needs, including installation.
