PUBLISHER’S CORNER W ell, it certainly has been an odd year, hasn’t it? Whether dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, struggling with economic uncertainty, or wondering what’s next for our country, there are many things on Americans’ minds these days. While all these issues in our nation carry on, Lake Anna area residents and visitors cer- tainly aren’t immune. However, it’s challeng- ing times like these that make the beautiful, quiet experience of being on the lake all the more meaningful and important. So, who couldn’t use a little distraction while on the water with a copy of Lake Anna Connections to enjoy? This edition’s three feature articles will engage you as you learn about volunteers and others in the Lake Anna area helping to make things in this corner of the world a little bit brighter. The first major article for this Fall’s publication – entitled “Louisa County Volunteer Rescue Squad” – informs readers about the important work being done by these individuals to help those in medical need. This group offers critical assistance to emergency professionals in the Lake Anna area. While their exact work has evolved over the years, this organization has beenmaking a difference since 1956. While flipping the pages of Lake Anna Connections this Fall, the next feature article is by longtime writer Linda Salisbury. Linda profiles the work being done for local veterans by those in the “Quilts of Valor” sewing club. This group of women meets faithfully to sew quilts for area veterans as an act of appreciation for their service. The ladies have a goal of making a handmade quilt for each veteran in Louisa County, beginning first with the remaining survivors of WWII. Finally, the last major article in this edition focuses on a new program at Louisa County High School: “Esports.” While athletic contests have traditionally focused on students interested in events like football and basketball, Esports helps young adults who enjoy video games get involved with a team. Students in this pilot program last year worked together while competing in video game-based competitions. Well, so ends an overview of the major feature articles in this edition of Lake Anna Connections . While reading, make sure you also learn about three fantastic local businesses with their Business Spotlight articles: Battlefield Homes, Trident Marine Canvas, and realtor Libby Sandridge with Dockside Realty. Also, if you need most any good or service in the Lake Anna area, one of the advertisers you see throughout this edition will certainly be able to fulfill your needs!
