Business Spotlight: Duke’s Creek Marina
Dukes Creek Marina (DCM) is centrally located on the southeastern side of Lake Anna, making it easily accessible for those traveling east from I-95 or north from Richmond. The marina has been operating on Lake Anna for almost 40 years, with the current owners taking over in 2005. The general manager Judy Jones – along with husband and boat yard manager Casey Jones – moved from North Carolina in 2005 to operate the marina. After taking over, they have made many upgrades and improvements to the business.
With a philosophy of professionalism, warm southern hospitality, and an emphasis on customer service, DCM has prospered and become a popular vacation destination on Lake Anna. DCM’s goal is to provide a fun family atmosphere for employees and customers alike. Many customers are part of the family and return each year. For a lot of people, it’s a home away from home.
DCM features a service department run by Steve Fuller, the service manager. Steve has over 40 years of experience as a boat mechanic. DCM is an authorized Yamaha and Mercury motors dealer; however, they can work on all makes and models of engines, and even jet skis. The service department provides winterization, de-winterization, major and minor repairs, and boat detailing.
The campground at DCM has a limited number of sites. Due to low turnover and high demand, there is a waiting list to rent a campsite, which are leased by the year. All campers, trailers, or structures are temporary, which means nothing can be buried or placed underground. The staff works hard to keep the campground, bath house, and marina property clean and have gradually and substantially improved the property. They’ve even “adopted a highway” and frequently pick up trash along Breaknock Road where the marina is located.
In the convenience store at DCM, you can find a variety of food, drinks, boat and watersport supplies, beer, ice, propane, bait, and more. The snack bar offers Hunt Brothers Pizza and Hershey’s Ice Cream, a popular amenity to locals and visitors alike. The kitchen is a clean, open area where you can watch food being made. With 12 flavors and three types of cones to choose from, there’s an ice cream for every taste. A deck with tables and umbrellas gives people a place to congregate and eat while enjoying the view of Lake Anna.
Last year, DCM added 24-hour pay at the pump, ethanol-free gas. In the last few years they’ve also replaced a launch ramp and most of the docks on the property. In 2009, DCM developed the adjacent property to make room for a fenced boat storage area.
DCM’s rental boat fleet includes 15 Avalon pontoon boats, the largest rental fleet on Lake Anna, with new boats being rotated in each year. There will be three 2018 models added this spring. Tube rentals are also available. The staff strives to provide a safe and fun experience on Lake Anna and educate our boat renters on boat operations and safety.
DCM is an Avalon pontoon boat dealer, and pre-owned boats are also sold on consignment. More information on current boats for sale and any other services can be found at www.dukescreekmarina.com.
