Business Spotlight: Stoneworx of Virginia
Stoneworx of Virginia is owned and operated by Shawn and Jennifer Thrall. Shawn was born and raised at Lake Anna and has watched the community grow over the years. At just 15 years old, he started as a laborer in the masonry field. His love for the art of stonework has grown from there. Shawn now has 30 years of experience and is constantly learning and adapting to the evolving trade. He continues his education in the field and keeps up with all needed certifications for the company.
Until recently, the Thralls ran the office for Stoneworx out of their home. After years of sending their clients into Fredericksburg or Charlottesville to look at different materials and make selections, Shawn and Jennifer decided to explore opening an office at Lake Anna. They wanted to bring those selections and products right to their customers.
Stoneworx now has a new office located at 5580 Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania. It is still a work in progress, but the Thralls are hoping to have everything complete by Spring 2024. Their goal is to have many materials available as samples and small-scale project displays for clients to gain ideas and view options. Their products range from natural stone and boulders to manufactured stone veneer, pavers, and more.
Currently, some product samples are already available for potential clients to view. Stoneworx also has several lines of outdoor furniture available for customers to complete their new outdoor living spaces. The Thralls are trying to save clients a trip elsewhere by bringing the options to them while also gaining exposure and showcasing the talents of their masons.
Stoneworx specializes in natural stone hardscape installation. Their preferred method of installation has been a permeable application, which has many benefits. Whether it is used to build a patio, walkway or driveway, a permeable application helps reduce erosion because it allows water to seep back into the ground or be diverted elsewhere. Doing this can also reduce the concentration of pollutants by naturally filtering some through the soil and not creating runoff.
The Thralls have so much confidence in this method of installation that they offer a lifetime warranty on craftsmanship on their permeable dry stack natural stone installations. They also understand not all applications are right for a permeable installation. Whatever the case may be, Stoneworx will help their clients decide which type of installation is best for their project.
As a design/build company, Stoneworx can design the outdoor living space of a client’s dreams or according to their plans. The Thralls’ main focus is trying to decide how their clients will use their new outdoor living space and helping bring it to life. They take great pride in the quality and craftsmanship of each project and want their clients to love their new outdoor living spaces.
Stoneworx is much more than just a hardscape company; they offer many other services as well. For example, they work with local builders and homeowners by installing stone veneer on new buildings or existing foundations, accent walls, and custom fireplaces.
