Business Spotlight: Debbie Moon with Sunset Properties at Lake Anna
Senior citizens may recall a time when gas stations provided full service with window washers and gas attendants to pump their fuel. Realtor Debbie Moon aims to provide the same level of service to seniors and their families. Having earned her Seniors Real Estate Specialist® (SRES®) designation, Debbie creates a customized approach to each client’s specific needs. Debbie uses her unique experience as an estate specialist and real estate agent to help her clients plan life after retirement or sell the family home and its contents
The Moons built their home on Lake Anna in 2000. In 2020, they sold their home in Maryland and moved to Lake Anna full time. One of the things they found, like many, was that they had two of everything. As a result, they formed Lake Anna Auctions and Estate Sales to help people sell the items they no longer need or want to pack when selling their home.
For Debbie, being able to combine estate sales and real estate has been a blessing. She helps seniors and their families sell their homes and the items they no longer need. Debbie recalls a time when two sisters contacted her for help. Their father had passed away, and they needed to move their mother into assisted living. They had to sell the family home and just about all the furniture, collectibles, and items in it.
Not knowing where to start, they met with Debbie, who went over a comprehensive checklist to identify their needs. Selling a family home and personal items after the passing of parents can be an emotionally challenging task. Debbie takes the time to meet with her clients and goes through the process to customize it to the family’s needs.
Examples of key steps in the process include:
- Financial and legal considerations
- Sorting through home items: what to donate, what to give to family/friends, what to sell
- Hosting an estate sale, tag sale, auction, or combination customized to every situation
- Selling your current home with pricing considerations
- Staging, photos, videos, and marketing
- Negotiating the sale and closing
- Packing and moving
At times, the amount of information coming someone’s way may seem overwhelming. Debbie is there to help by tailoring meetings to a senior’s needs. Clients shouldn’t be afraid to ask as many questions as they’d like until they feel comfortable with the steps in the sale process and other potentially complicated details. Debbie may suggest taking breaks so seniors can absorb the information, and they may want to break up the pre-listing process over several visits to the home.
Whatever the reason, there may come a time when parents, along with their adult children, consider selling and moving on. Debbie Moon guides families through the complex issues and unique situations encountered during the process. As part of the Sunset Properties at Lake Anna team, she is well connected in the community and can provide trustworthy referrals for plumbers, electricians, lawn maintenance, handymen, etc.
As Debbie says, “Ask for the Moon. You deserve it.”
